Many Conservatives seem to be arguing that sales taxes are better than income

taxes because they are more? voluntary; viz., you don't pay them unless you make the choice to spend.

However, besides the fact that spending isn't often voluntary, e.g., groceries, is it a good idea to create a tax policy that would inhibit consumer spending, when 70% of economic activity is derivative of it?
