Why do we need thinner and lighter gadgets?

I don't get why we need thinner and lighter phones, computers, etc...yet so many resources are put into just this.

Who the hell cares if your laptop is thinner than mine as long as it's doing the same stuff.

I agree with you, but its just the recent trend of technology. Also it may give some slight advantages like small size and low weight but its usually just so they can justify charging more.

It's the "cool factor" it makes people want to buy the latest greatest device.

Lighter weight devices can be a good thing. I have to carry my laptop where ever I go for my job. I hate carrying it after about 5 minutes because it's heavy.
