Why do they make you turn off cellphones or electronics in an airplane?

I've been to an airplane 3 times and I still remember the monotonous speakers tell us to turn off all electronics. I never get why but my mum would scare me and my siblings and say " Hurry it up you don't want out plane to crash ay?"

You have to turn off your cellphone in an aircraft because it interferes with the aircraft compasses, but in saying that some airlines are now allowing passengers to use their cellphones in flight (Emirates now allows it on there A380 fleet)

It's regulations, and regulations are to be respected.
It doesn't have to do anything with any signal interference though.
That's a 20 years old myth.
Just turn the cellphone off, listen to FAs and be aware of what's happening.
