Optimum nutrition whey protein gold standard?

Is this a meal replacement or a muscle building protein? Because I went to GNC and one of the guys said it doesn't help you gain mass due to it's lack in carbs. (2 carbs per serving) and that I should buy a mass gainer.
 
It's neither and the sales people at GNC generally don't know much about nutrition because the only thing they're trained to do is sell supplements and steer you toward some product which will make you think it will help but probably won't. Optimum Nutrition is a bodybuilding supplement and a scam.
