Hi I have Philips Blu-ray player & it cost me $450.99. I also have Toshiba HD-DVD player that cost me $299.99. Ok with my Blu-ray player, it would not play "Pirates of the Caribbean","Casino Royal" & "The Prestige". Later I found out why because the "region code". When my sister when to Germany, she bought me "Batman Begins" on Blu-ray format & "Rambo 2" HD-DVD format. The "Batman Beings" it did not played on my Philips Blu-ray player! The "Rambo 2" it did played my Toshiba HD-DVD with no problems & it's from Germany! Not only that, many "couple" Blu-ray picture it shows "grainy pixels".

Maybe I could say that HD-DVD player better made then the Blu-ray players.

blu ray actually is more superior than hd-dvd. and if im not mistaken both also have backward compatibility with regular dvds? blu ray can hold more data than hd-dvd. the problem you encountered are basically because of the region incompatibility, which in turn is caused by varying acceptance of the formats in different areas. as blu-ray is now the accepted format, you should get more options and availability of the movies you want.
