DVD/RW dell dimension 4500?

Well I have an older Dell Demension 4500, XP professional, and...I came across an Hitachi H-L Dual layer DVD/RW...since this machine did not come with it and after installing it, I find the CD part works fine but no DVD will play, and I cannot burn any DVD also...The model number for this DVD writer is GSA 4120B and there is nothing on the Dell support site about any firmware or driver for this thing...so how can I get this thing to work properly?

to get the DVD to play you need some software to play the DVD. The best that I think is Power DVD, but it does cost. You can search the internet and find some free ones if you want. Also to get it to burn DVDs you will need software for that too. If you are wanting to burn DVD movies than you need software that will rip the dvd and software to burn the dvd. I would do DVDfav it's a grat program, but it only has a 60 day trial and than you have to pay for it. There are some free ones out there but they suck.
