Confused about the fitness plateau effect?

Im really confused about the plateau thing,i've got a resitance band kit that came with five different bands of different levels and also came with two workout dvds the dvds walk you through a full body workout (circuit training).In the program you are constantly moving from the resistance bands to the cardio intervals,i have been working with this kit for a few months now using both dvds and its been great,but i read that if you follow the same program too long it will stop working for you.I read that you have to change it up,but i follow dvds i dont really know what to do without watching them.It said you can instead of three times a week switch up to four or five times a week and all kind of other complicated stuff that supposed to get through the effect.I read that usually happens when you do long slow cardio and long hours of lifting the same weights but i wanted to know if it happens even if your doing circuit training and interval training ,this is so confusing
