My husband just surprised me and adopted me a 10 week old golden retriever

mix, Parker.? We adopted him from North Shore Animal League. He had just come in the day before from Virginia and he is so shy and scared. When we first brought him home, he would run and lay down in a corner or behind anything that could hide him. My mother (who lives downstairs) has a dog about his (puppy) size and last night he warmed up to her and they were playing and having such a good time! This morning I woke up and crawled over to him to say good morning and he was scared again. What can I do to make my little guy more comfortable???

It breaks my heart but at the same time comforts me that we're giving him a good home filled with love and soon enough, he'll trust us.

Any advice would be appreciated!

have you any toys for him? sit in a quiet room with just you and him together. Sit with your back facing him holding his toy. puppies are inquisitive he should eventually come to see what you are doing when he does, keep playing with the toy in your hands dont make any sudden movements just let him sniff away, keep doing this untill he feel comfortable being near you. eventually he should allow you to touch him gently.
 
Just be patient, loving and kind. He'll come around. Any training you do use positive reinforcement. Lots of "atta boy" "good boy" "good Parker" when he does the right thing. Important not to yell at him when he does wrong. Firm "No" is okay just not yelling.
 
Rehoming of any animal is very stressful. Your dog will bond with you (don't worry so much) on his OWN time and his OWN terms. Give your pup a little space and wait it out.
