My cars alternator has gone....?

Hi yesterday my battery light stayed on whilst I was driving, I called the AA and the guy said that the alternator had gone. I think he said instead of having 12 volts? I had 11, where the battery hadn't been recharging.

Currently I live about 10 miles outside of Cardiff and would like to get it to the garage that I have always used as I know they are good guys and won't rip me off.

Will the car make the journey ? (obviously in daylight, no lights on etc.)

Also I am with the AA so if I got part the way there would they tow me to the garage of choice?

If your car turns over quickly and starts first time you should make it to the garage and the A A would tow you there if the worst came to the worst but why not call the garage out to your house to fix the alternator.I had a garage business and once travelled 30 miles to fit a by pass hose in the Grounds of the old Cardiff Royal Infirmary for the matron who was a regular customer of mine and wanted nobody but me to do it.I was very pleased to do it as she was a very good customer and thus made only a nominal charge
