I have OSX 10.7 lion, but the software that comes with the HDD is powerPC (why they haven't updated it I have no idea.)
so anywho, how do I manually configure it?

If you need to format it, use Disk Utility in /Applications/Utilities/. Format HFS if it's just for your Mac, or FAT if you're going to be using it with a Windows box as well.
