If you get it through Verizon the answer is no. There is a video on the internet of one with a sim card that is causing the buzz. That is the European make of the Droid that is going to be called "Milestone when it comes out in early 2010.
It's not a stupid question and we purchased 2 motorola droids from Verizon in 2010,which both came with sims cards, so the idiot doesn't know what he/she is talking about for starters. Apparently just likes to use the word his favorite word to create hate and discontent!
the verizon droid has what looks like it used to be a sim port. if you check out the gsm droid video you will see where the sim card goes, but on the cdma droid the port is still there, it just has a small aluminum bar that blocks the port. id guess most people trying to convert cdma to gsm(hahaha) have a stolen or lost phone.
I don't think that someone would have a stolen phone if they are wanting to use a sim card. I myself am on T-mobile, and love the company. I've had Verizon in the past, and hated it. Have no desire to go back. But, I am researching what kind of phone I want next because I am due for an upgrade. But, because I have a sim card now with all my stuff on it, I am looking for a phone that will accept my sim card. Pretty much all the phones that are made for AT&T are sim card phones and can be used on the Tmobile network.
cdma phones are capable of working with sim cards, e.g. the HTC snap world phone. Is there A way of opening up the old port on a Droid and using it with a sim card?

It has been many years since I tested phones, but world phones had Sim cards because they would work over on the European gsm (and others) networks. we would have different sims for different countries to avoid the roaming fees. I might be wrong, my memory for things other than the above posters momma, is getting a little rusty, but the worldphones had 900, 1800, & 1900 mhz radios back when I worked on them. The 900 used to be cdma, and you would use 1800, or 1900 for gsm depending on the country. Granted, this was back before 3G. I left the field a little before 3g started being implemented.
I have Motorola Droid and want to use it as a wifi only device to setup as a static monitor for my IP camera. I reset the phone and was asked to activate it. Then I figured I could remove the SIM to kill the radio. Surprise, no Sim. Thought it was maybe hidden so I took the phone apart. Nope, no Sim.. Damn it! Now I guess I will have to root the phone to get rid of the activation nag as other fixes only work until reboot. The phone I bought to replace my old Droid is the bionic and it has a Sim card as did my older phones that I had with AT&T. My Droid and Droid bionic are with Verizon.
