Will i really need to buy a dvd writer for my new pc?

i am going to purchase a budget desktop pc.
so i dont want to spend on a dvd writer.
but because i have very little knowledge about computers so help me please.

if i don't buy it, will i be able to install latest operating system like w7 or w8 as well as, will i also be able to install and run games through dvd without having dvd writer?

i think i will be able to do so. because i will already have dvd drive.

so now please tell me, what to do?

If you already have a dvd drive then you'll be fine. i cant remember the last time i actually created a dvd. everything is done on USB flash drives these days.
