The Greek style of the Parthenon for the Doe Library at UC Berkeley.
so it was deemed appropriate because it was a learning temple? is that all?

It's called Classical Revival style. It was very popular at the time (1900). Public buildings in this time were seen almost as temples--courthouses, post offices, city hall buildings, even police stations and bus depots were built to look like ancient Greek and Roman temples. Think of it as a temple of learning if you like.
