Why is it hard for some Christians to be believers but still support science?

Obviously this doesn't apply to all Christians.

I am sick and tired of hearing ignorant Christians denounce science when they know nothing of basic chemistry and biology. Theories aren't "fact", and science doesn't try to "prove" ANYTHING. For the record, there's less evidence for the theory of gravity than there is for the theory of evolution. But which one are people are more inclined to believe?

And if they're so against science in general, then where do they think their computer came from? Modern medicine? Agricultural techniques? Without science, we wouldn't have modern technology and medicine. Science doesn't actively try to prove or disprove God/Gods.

The war between science and religion makes no sense and I can't see why it can't go hand in hand.
Cat - Maybe there are just way too many hardcore creationists over here. :(
