Why do people start shouting 'miracle' when one person out of 100 survives an...

...airplane crash or a boat? accident? Those kinds of survival rates are explainable by simple engineering. There are places in aircraft that are much stronger than other places which means there are places where you have a much higher chance of survival in a crash. People should know this when they choose a seat. But back to the miracle. So, one person survives, and 99 perish horribly. Is this a 'miracle' for the families of the 99 dead? People look for confirmation of their beliefs in the silliest ways and never think how those of us who look at the world rationally see them (start with silly, and go south).
