Why do lots of people compare Skins to Gossip Girl?

Skins was aired first in early January 07 and is having 4 series

While GG was aired late 07 and only has 2 series.

And they seem very like different shows apart from the teen bit.
If you had to pick one show which would you prefer?

Because they are teenagers and therefore are desperate to be acknowledged.

they see things as gossip girl and skins as acknowledgments of their proto-cultures.

Which is inherently foolish - eventually these "acknowledgments" will begin to twist those proto-cultures to the goals and ideals of those who create those foul heresies unto man.
