Why did I get verbally attacked by Christians while walking to school today?

Well i pass a church on my way to learn and they offered my a card and invited me to come to church I politely refused and told them "I am not religious anymore"

AND THEN THEY GOT ALL UP IN MY FACE TALKING ABOUT HOW I WAS GOING TO BURN AND HOW GOD HATES ME

I thought you guys are supposed to understanding.
