Who is going to win World Cup Soccer 2006?

It would be nice to see Zidane go out with a bang, cementing himself as one of the best players of all time. He's never captained the French National Team to success, so now he has a chance to prove himself.

I'm not sure, I think France could just have the edge over Italy, but that Italian defence is quite astounding. Should be quite a good final.

France and Portugal has just finished, good first half, shame about the second.

One of the Portuguese did a fine mawashigeri jodan on a Frenchman!
Portugal had five good attempts - and didn't get a single penalty out of them!
Scolari took Portugal's defeat in good grace though...

Thank God the Portuguese are out, cheaters should never prosper from their cheating. Cry Ronaldo, Cry like the little bitch you are!

I disagree, Cole and Gerrard are world class and I would put them on a level if not above any other player in the world, Makelele is the worlds greatest holding midfield player, and Ronaldinho is sublime, the other midfield spot is up for grabs (assuming a 4-1-4-1), but I agree, Lampard and Beckham would not be chasing it.

I think Terry would make it into the defence but thats it. I agree with Robinson, its hard to disagree when you consider he really struggles to reach the top corner.

Henry doesn't often perform at international level, that said neither has Rooney. I'm not sure who I would put up front.

But in general I agree, the England team is not as good as Shearer makes out. That said had they not been robbed in the Quarters I strongly believe they would have won it.

Agreed. I ight put Gerrard in the midfeild, bit apart from that, I agree. The Tottenham fan in me is telling me to put Lennon on the right wing and he wont shut up.

I think you overrate Ribery a bit. He's got some talent, but I would say he's totally outclassed by the likes of Beckham and Joe Cole.

Beckham doesn't outclass anyone! He's a has-been.

I think Joe Cole was one of the few positives for England in this WC. The only regular member of our starting midfield to have emerged with any credit.
(Owen Hargreaves and Aaron Lennon emerged as future stars, IMHO.)

Ribery has emerged as one of the stars of the tournament, but he needs to be more involved in games before he can be considered as a truly great international player. I think he drifts out of the game for too long.

Please Johnno, let's admit it.You guys need Beckam and the public wants him too. He is a comodity. He is to soccer what Anna Kournikova used to be to tennis. A superstar. He sells whereas Rooney doesn't! Period.

Real Madrid uses him to infalte its already billionaire state.

Here where I currently live (Taipei-Taiwan) it's not uncommon for chicks to say: WoW! Beckham is so hot! I'd sleep with him. I love his hairstyle!

What has got this to do with soccer???

Nothing but he gives a good and very markeatable image (bad according to others) to soccer and sport in general.

Exactly. He's more of a catwalk model than a footballer.

For England he has become a liability. Time to say 'ta and ta-ta'.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaa haha ha ha...

David Beckham is a talented player. If nothing else, he's a tremendous free kicker.

Anna Kournikova was a terrible tennis player who many people found attractive and therefore watched. If Anna Kournikova looked like Amelie Mauresmo (see photo below), you would never have heard of her.

Real Madrid and Man U have never paid Beckham for his looks. They could care less. They paid him because of his skills.

Bless!

Yes, he used to be a very good player. He's probably still got a couple of seasons at the top level in club football. He just isn't god enough for international football any more.

There is no way Beckham would coofftopicnd such a high transfer fee or be onethe wages he is now if he wasn't good looking enough to get millions of shirts in China.

Perhaps, but I gave me a few seconds of amusement, just thought it might do the same for a few other people.

I think everyone likes this bird not just many

Beckham is to soccer what Kournikova is to tennis (or should I say porn-tennis ):

Hehe....And there are naughtier pics of here online but we must abide to forum rules, right?

Sandus,

You are completely wrong this time. Let me tell you I've been a Real fan all my life cos I used to live in Spain.

The reason why Florentino Perez was appointed manager of the club is because he was known as being capable of rising Real's already billionaire state. And he hired and used Beckham to achieve that ultimate goal.

I came across this online article that gives a good detail of what I'm talking about (sorry it's in Spanish ):

Basically, Real Madrid is to sport what M$ is to software. Voracious business sharks!!
