The Chicago Cubs are rolling into October with 103 regular season victories and are considered the favorites to win the*World Series for the first time in 108 years.
And who knows? In three weeks, we might not be able to ask this question any more.
So while we can, here it is: Who are the Cubs of the NFL?
To clarify further, which NFL franchise holds the title of the sport’s perpetual Charlie Brown, collecting victories that are few and far between while never winning the big one?
Who has the ball pulled away from them year after year?
The NFL doesn’t have any shortage of candidates. Thirteen teams* have never won a Super Bowl and almost any of them can stake a claim as a woebegone franchise for one reason or another.
But who’s the lowest of the low? Which team would shock us most if they won a Super Bowl title? Kevin Kaduk of Yahoo Sports answers those questions in the latest episode of NFL in 90, using a set of guidelines both logical and arbitrary. He also poses the question to colleague Jay Busbee in the latest Grandstanding podcast. Check it out below.
•The 13 teams are the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, *Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans.
