We've had our greyhound a few years (retired) & we go to the dog daily & I can tell you without a shadow of doubt GREYHOUNDS are much faster than whippets. Ours loves to run & she smokes the whippets.
We've actually clocked our girl at almost 40 miles per hour in our neighborhood, & she finally just put on the jets & passed us!! amazing animals!!!!!!!! (but not good with little children)

In a sighthoound coursing event, the whippet would win. Although the greyhound is faster, whippetts make sharper turns enabling them to finsih faster. If it was a straight run course (no turns) the greyhound would win.
