What is the real key to humor/ being funny?

i am really funny sometimes, but some other odd occasions, i can't think of a single comeback or line to make others laugh. sometimes things come out wrong, or i say something really stupid. what are some key tips i must learn to make my humor permanent?

um you could use life situations that a lot of people have bin in so they can relate and im not sure what to say about comebacks just try to be quick minded

Telling something that is close enough to the truth everyone or most people can relate, but exaggerated enough that people feel comfortable laughing about it.
