You have either a dirty idle air control valve (remove and clean with Gum-out), or a collapsed oil trap hose. Also known as a flame trap. The oil trap is composed of rubber hoses that collapse after a while, if you are not using synthetic oil. Thes tubes will need to be replaced, as they affect fuel/air mixture. Good Luck!!!

1988 Volvo 760 Turbo w/Intercooler. I was coming off hwy ramp & it died. Pulled over & started right up. Several more starts & stops within the next couple of hours. Pulling up to a red light, dies again. 10 minutes and about 10 times, no start. Put screwdriver in sparkplug boot #1 - has spark... it started. Took screwdriver out, placed sparkplug wire back, car started. Have noticed strong gas smell, though. Drover the car 10 miles home, no issues. Any ideas anyone?
