Three times a walk-off: After going 223 games without a walk-off home run, the Texas Rangers have won each of their last three on walk-off blasts after Adrian Beltre delivered the latest on Wednesday night. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Angels, they were on the receiving of all three, beginning with Geovany Soto's solo homers in the ninth inning on Monday and followed by Leonys Martin's three-run shot in the tenth on Tuesday. Beltre's roundtripper in the ninth gave the Rangers a 2-1 victory, which completed a sweep in the three-game series.
Detroit finishes two-game sweep: What would have been hyped as a World Series preview in April proved to be a mismatch in late July. With their 11-1 victory on Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers finished off a two-game sweep of the Washington Nationals despite missing the lethal bat Miguel Cabrera. They also didn’t get a sharp start from Justin Verlander, who walked five over six innings, but were able to rough up Giol Gonzalez for 10 runs in 3 1/3 innings. That’s one run shy of his career-high for runs allowed.

''Being able to walk off three times in a row, and our offense has been the reason why we struggled the last few weeks, and our offense is getting a lot better,'' Beltre said.
''And it starts with me. I haven't been swinging the bat real well, hitting in the middle of the lineup and not doing my job, but the last couple of games have been better and hopefully it creates that for everybody.''
