Specifically what does it mean to have a sense of humor?

My friends tell me I have no sense of humor because I don't make people laugh. It's true. Can never come up with jokes (or they suck) and I can never come back with some witty comeback or whatever. I'm pretty much straightforward honest. I mean I sense and laugh at funny things, isnt' that what a sense of humor is? I'm no comedian.
