According to the Seattle Times, Browning recently underwent shoulder surgery on his right (throwing) shoulder for an injury he suffered in the Huskies’ win over Arizona State in November. The report said Browning’s recovery is expected to take six weeks.
Browning, a sophomore, was one of the nation’s most efficient quarterbacks in 2016 and a major reason Washington made it to the College Football Playoff. But he struggled in the final two games of the Huskies’ season.
In the Pac-12 title game win over Colorado and Washington’s Peach Bowl loss to Alabama, Browning was a combined 29-52 passing for 268 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. While facing two very good defenses likely played a role in those statistics, it’s not much of a leap to assume Browning was hindered by an injury that would eventually need surgery.
UW’s win over Arizona State came a week after a loss to USC, the Huskies’ only loss of the regular season. Before the Pac-12 title game he was 21-29 for 292 yards and three touchdowns in an Apple Cup win over Washington State.
Browning finished the season with 43 touchdowns and nine interceptions and completed 63 percent of his passes.
