new jeep air intake hole under it afriad of mud/rain getting to it?

i got a k&n air intake for my jeep gc 94 its amazing lol but the old air intake was in a box and when we took out the box ( your supose to ) it left a hole there which is good because the new air intake can get more air from it the hole isent from rust or anything its suppose to be there for what ever reason... but i see all around the old box it has mud on the bottom of it from where when i off road it gets mub on the bottom of it from the hole it was covering.

anyways because the new one dosent over this hole im worried that mud is going to get up in there and ruin the air filter or worse yet hydro lock
