A group of people are on an alien space station full of ships that are preprogrammed to go to a random destination. Some of them bring back great wealth, others are sent to their death. Using the ships is like a form of Russian roulette. Each time you go, you take your life in your own hands. Those who didn't participate were threatened with the possibility of being tossed out the air lock (everything, including the air in the station had a price).
