My dad Dad was in the navy, and he never talks about it..?

My father is a different kind of person, and he was in the navy, and as most people know, today is veterans day, and I called my Dad to thank him, and talk to him. I had this feeling as soon as I started school and my friend's Dad had came in to talk about his experiences in the navy, and things of that nature. It almost made me kind of sad in a way, knowing very little about my own father and his experience. I called him, with sort of a mission to try and see what I could get out of him, all I know is that he ran the power plant on the submarine, and that he traveled to some places, but that's all I know. He never speaks of the time when he served, and it makes me wonder what actually happened to him during the time that he did serve. My Dad's not one to talk about feelings, or hold long conversations on this subject. Anyone experience anything like it? It would be awesome if you had any feedback that you think might be helpful!
