Down by 15 points halfway through the fourth quarter, the Dallas Mavericks looked like they’d be heading home down 2-0 in the NBA Finals. But the game wasn’t over yet. In one of the best comebacks of all time, Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs rallied for a 95-93 victory over the Miami Heat to even up the series at 1-1.

Jason Terry scored six straight points to turn the 15-point deficit to just nine. And then moments later with just three minutes left in the contest and Dallas down by four, it was Dirk time. Nowitzki scored the final nine points of the game, including a dagger three-pointer to take the lead with 28 seconds left. Trailing 88-73, the Mavs closed the game with a 22-5 run to clinch the victory.

Earlier in the fourth period, it seemed as if the Heat might sweep the Mavericks. But that’s all changed now with the next three games taking place in Dallas.

Dwyane Wade had 36 points for the Heat and LeBron James tallied 20. But it was the balanced offensive attack and late-game defense of the Mavericks that prevailed. Nowitzki finished the night with 24 points while Shawn Marion had 20, Jason Terry scored 16 and Tyson Chandler chipped in 13.
