jailbreak/unlock iphone to use in other countries?

Hi, if i jailbreak (for more app options) and unlock (to use in other country), can i use my iphone in korea and japan? do i just need to get a sim card(do i need a new plan too?) from korea and japan?

and if i want to use it in the US, is T-mobile the only available carrier?

Yes, you can..use the iPhone all over the world with the local sim once unlocked and download any apps after its jailbroken.You need to get a data plan too...with the sim to make calls/message/internet usage etc.In U.S you can opt for AT&T,T-Mobile and any GSM networks.I suggest to jailbreak you can use Jailbreakme.com and to unlock you can use the permanent remote unlock service from Onlinegsmunlock.com and remove the network lock easily.
