is the size of the tires on my road bike relevant to my weight?

i'm a pretty heavy guy, about 220 pounds. I've been riding my road bike to school and around town so i can lose weight and save on gas. i got 27" x 1-1/4 tires and tubes, i've popped a tube and i just bought it a couple weeks ago. i have gone over cracks and potholes a couple times and i'm wondering if i should be careful with what i run over or am I too heavy for those thin tubes?(i know theres thinner tubes out there lol)

yes, that and you need to keep your tires to the MAXIMUM inflation.

Do you check your tubes when you get a flat? Do you find glass, or two small holes that look like a snakebite? The latter and you're getting pinch-flats, meaning your tires are underinflated.

And try and steer around potholes whenever possible.

No need to stay away from thinner tires. However, at 220 lb, you probably should pump your tires to the max. pressure printed on the tire walls. Always try to avoid pot holes, cracks, and other road hazards. glass is more likely to cause flats in general. Even if they don't cause a flat, they will eventually make your wheels untrue.
