I have a 2001 Suzuki GZ250 Motorcycle. When it gets cold at times it will not start unless it gets flooded with gas. For 2 years it did not have this problem until now. I have rebuilt the carburetor, changed the petcock, and put in a new battery and starter cable. It does not do this so much but it still does from time to time? One mechanic ripped me off about $800. The mechanic shop I go to now seems to be doing a good job and I have spent over $1700 with this shop but this motorcycle still has this problem. What can it be? Since it did not have this problem for two years I think it is fixable. Or am I being taken for a ride again with the shop I go to? I want to save this motorcyclee because everything has been changed on it except for the motor and transmission. When it does start it runs very well. It just has this one problem. What can it posibly be?
This may not have anything to do with the problem I am asking, but I have also changed the chain and sprockets, rebuilt the front brake mechanism, and changed the brake shoes on both wheels.
When I start the motorcycle, the petcock is on ON. I release the stand and squeeze the left clutch release lever and press the starter button as I have been doing for 2 years. Makes the normal sound of a motorcycle trying to start but does not.

Only when I start smelling gas which means the engine is flooded and I turn the throttle full to unflood it is when the motorcycle starts after a few trys.

"The mechanic shop I go to now seems to be doing a good job and I have spent over $1700 with this shop but this motorcycle still has this problem." So, they're NOT doing a good job, are they!!

It needs a tune-up, which should consist of (amongst other things) a new air filter and a choke adjustment. And go to another mechanic!
