to always be able to check email
to have a nice camera on your phone
for the "good" apps that help you learn or have coupons
to keep track of things (calender/reminders/alarms)
Are your parents well off or are they having trouble buying food and paying the mortgage? Iphones aren't cheap, especially if you aren't due an upgrade. And you didn't say how old you are, which has some bearing.
