How succesful is introducing 2 rabbits that are unrelated to each other?

I have a male rabbit(scooby) i am gunna get him neutered but he is 2 years old and has lived alone all his life, would getting him a spayed female be a good idea?.. they will have separate cages and a large play pen to share. could i put them in the play pen at the same time or would they fight ??
