How can I win my friend back after a misunderstanding made worse by gossip?

I have a really good friend at work but we've fallen out after a misunderstanding which was made worse by a few people stirring and gossiping. We usually meet at lunchtime as we work in the same building but some people have been making inuendos even though we are both straight and both married - I have two kids. Why are people so annoying? How can we become best mates again and ignore stupid gossip?

Misunderstanding come when one side cannot convincingly explain a sitution to the other side. So dear, you just have to table the matter and express or explain the situation better to your friend. If not....sorry.
