How Can I get Sony Vegas Pro 9 to import XVID Files and other formats such as M2TS?

I want to import some video clips into my Sony Vegas 9 but it either wont import at all or wont import the sound. Mainly the format that wont import at all are formats such as M2TS and such. But The format that only imports sound of the video is XVID avi. Sometimes the XVID .avi wont import at all. What do I do? Do I need a codec add on for sony vegas?
