Hector Olivera to serve 10 days in jail for domestic assault

Hector Olivera (Curtis Compton/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP) Hector Olivera has been found guilty on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge and will serve 10 days in jail, the result of an April incident where Olivera was arrested*at a Virginia hotel while the Atlanta Braves were on a road trip for assaulting a woman, later identified as his girlfriend.*A Virginia*judge sentenced Olivera to 90 days in jail Thursday, but suspended 80 days of the sentence, according to court records obtained by USA Today.*TMZ reports Olivera plans to appeal the conviction.
Olivera, who is currently a free agent after being waived by the San Diego Padres following a trade from the Braves in July,*was suspended 82 games by Major League Baseball under*its domestic violence policy.
The 31-year-old outfielder defected from Cuba in 2014 to sign a six-year, $62.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 30 major-league games, all played with Atlanta, Olivera hit*.245/.296/.378 and he has not played since his arrest took place.
