Can anyone recommend a decent camera tripod for use on holiday? I don't mean one of those pocket things that extends up to about ten inches - I'm after something that is reasonably portable (so that it will fit in a smallish backpack) but that can be extended up to waist or even chest height so that it can be positioned on the floor. Also it needs to be quite sturdy as I might want to mount a camcorder on it from time to time.
I used to work in a serious / professional photography store about 25 years ago, so am familiar with brands like Manfrotto, Velbon, Stitz and Benbo - but now all I need is something fairly stable and sturdy that will do the job without costing the earth.
Anyone got any products to recommend? Thanks!
