I have just installed Windows 7 Ultimate, coming from vista (x64) 7 is also obviously x64, and everything was working fine on the vista home premium installation, but when I got to Windows 7, most things were working properly, except for the DVD drive which doesn't show up in My Computer, Device Manager or Disk management. I tried downloading the drivers from the Toshiba support website but to no avail. I tried to get to the BIOS to see the information on there with the F8 key (which could be the wrong key, correct me if I'm wrong) but it didn't work, it just booted up normally into Windows 7.
The tray also doesn't even open anymore (except for the manual pin) and the DVD that was inside didn't spin.
What can I do about this.
Thanks
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A-300 Special Edition.

This usually fixes the missing DVD drive problem:
