I'm an adult (32 y/o) from the U.S. traveling around Europe for two months (October and November). Here is my expected route:
Madrid, Spain
Barcelona, Spain
Paris, France
Brussels, Belgium
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Berlin, Germany
Prague, Czech. Rep.
Zurich, Switz.
Venice, Italy
Florence, Italy
Rome, Italy
Is a EuRail pass cheaper than simply paying the standard fare on local trains? The 60 day EuRail Global/Adult pass appears to be around $1500-1700, but my travel agent told me there will also be a surcharge of around 10% of the total price of a standard fare for each leg of my trip. So for example, if the normal fare from Madrid to Barcelona is $330, I will be charged around $33.00 in addition to the base price I have already paid for the EuRail Pass.
Is this really the cheapest way to see Europe?
Thanks in advance.
