can i record a sports programme off Sky to ~DVD to send to my friend overseas?

we used to be able to record a tv programme to DVD. Is this still possible with Sky sports programmes

It should be possible so long as you record it between the out put of the Sky box and TV on playback. Any other way will leave you with a recording of an ecrypted signal.
