...excuse today? Surely evidence based knowledge enables us to discern good ideas from bad ones? To cast out ill conceived concepts, superstitious beliefs - to give the medieval mind a clean sweep through with the brush.

Why do followers hold on to these beliefs, when all the evidence points to them being false?
 
Religion is a security blanket that is (at the moment) socially acceptable for adults to carry around.
