Asus G74s DVD drive stuck halfway. Help?

Somehow, when someone was loading my laptop into my backpack, the DVD drive got stuck, about halfway closed. It used to move a bit, but now it won't budge. I can't see any visibleproblems, and because of my comp's size, I'm afraid topack it or move it around in fear of breaking the drive. Any idea of what may be wrong, or what I can do? (There is/was no disk in the drive)

Exert firm pull on the full tray (not just the bezel, as you may break it) until it opens. The tray is on a slide with a plastic gear track to control eject. Usually, if it's stuck it's the track got jammed, though a busted disc is a possibility.

If it won't open at all, the drive is probably toast. You can try disassemble the PC (not recommended), remove the drive from the bay, and see if you can extract the CD then.
