Seven year old who led police on car chase (wptv staff)
At the age of seven, Latarian Milton is free even though what he's accused of often lands adults in jail.
Friday, police say he took his grandmother's car and went on a joyride.
Latarian Milton says, "I took it on a high speed chase."
Terrified and astonished drivers inundated 911.
911 caller says, “Almost just hit me. It’s going to be bad.”
Angry at his mom, Latarian took the keys and took off.
911 caller says, “Oh my God. He’s going to hit somebody.”
With police following, the four foot tall youngster drove down two busy roads
911 caller says, “We just got hit by a SUV that was running from the police.”
He even detoured through several shopping complexes.
911 Dispatcher “Are you injured.”
911 Caller “No, I’m o.k. just scared.”
Latarian finally stopped when he totaled the Durango he was driving. He left four damaged cars behind him.
Latarian though is free of the legal system. He's only seven and considered too young.
Mike Edmundson, Spokesperson State Attorney’s Office, says, "Not considered competent to actually testify to be aware of what's going on in court."
Latarian's grandmother who has custody of him is disappointed not only in him, but the justice system.
Vikkita Stratford, grandmother says, "By me putting him in punishment taking the video games that's not strong enough" "If the state doesn't look into this and there's more punishment we're asking for more trouble."
Latarian Milton says, "Don't stop for anything we go on a high speed chase then we broke."
Now, the only one stopping Latarian is his grandmother...who has grounded him.
The State Attorney’s Office says the only thing they can do is offer assistance, like counseling if the family wants it. Latarian’s grandmother says she’s on board with that and is ready to send her grandson to boot camp if he acts out again.
No one was injured during the joyride, but the owner of one of the cars Latarian his has already hired a lawyer.
