The “fastest man on Earth” will be crowned tonight in track and field, U.S. men’s basketball is trying to recover from a couple of shaky wins and Olympic golf finishes its first tournament in 112 years. That and more on this ninth day of the 31st Olympiad.
Morning slots:
Early morning coverage of the final round of men’s golf starts at 6:30 a.m. ET on the Golf Channel. *If you don’t feel like throwing on a pot of coffee that early on a Sunday, you can wait until the afternoon for golf action, but more on that later.
Also in the morning will be the women’s marathon, where Americans Shalane Flanagan, Desiree Linden and Amy Cragg will be vying for medals at 8 a.m. ET on NBC. While the women make their way through the course, you can switch over to the USA Network where women’s volleyball between Serbia and Netherlands starts at 9 a.m. ET. Preliminary rounds of badminton will also be featured in the coverage.

You keep it on the USA network at 11 a.m. ET if you want to see Greco-Roman wrestling, or you can switch over to NBC’s daytime coverage at 11:15 a.m. where the women’s marathon is concluding. The USA women’s basketball team looks continue its dominant start to the tournament against China.
Afternoon Slots:
Synchronized swimming will start at 1 p.m. ET on NBC, but also featured will be equestrian jumping where Beezie Madden and other Americans will be competing for a medal. The finish of men’s golf will also be included in that coverage. American Bubba Watson is in the best position to medal, sitting in fourth place at 6-under, but it will take a lot for him to catch up to Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, who sit at 12-under and 11-under, respectively.

But if the hardwood is where your heart is, U.S. men’s basketball is on at 1 p.m. ET against France. The Americans have looked shaky the last two games with close wins against Serbia and Australia, and they will need to be strong to win against a France team that features Tony Parker, Nic Batum and Boris Diaw.
Starting at 2:30 p.m ET, men’s water polo is back in action against Italy after losing against Montenegro. *They need to win against Italy to put themselves in position to advance to the medal round.
At 4 p.m., you can choose between the U.S. women’s volleyball team on NBC against China, or switch to CNBC where you can watch women’s handball, men’s field hockey and badminton featuring a match between USA and China.
Primetime slots:
Do not turn your TV away from NBC starting at 8 p.m. Leading off the coverage will be women’s springboard diving where Abby Johnston will be contending for a medal.
Track and field will feature one of its showcase events as Usain Bolt looks to become the first three-time gold medalist in the 100-meter race. American Justin Gatlin will be in the field hoping to spoil Bolt’s coronation as arguably the best sprinter of all time.

Also featured in tonight’s coverage of track and field is American LaShawn Merritt, who will be battling it out with Kirani James of Grenada in the 400-meter race.
NBC also returns to the gymnastics arena for individual events. Simone Biles and Madison Kocian are on the schedule tonight, and they will be competing in the vault and uneven bars, respectively.
Ending NBC’s primetime coverage will be women’s beach volleyball quarterfinal action, where Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross will be taking on Louis Bawden and Taliqua Clancy of Australia. *Walsh Jennings and Ross ran through the group stage, and are the strongest contenders for a gold medal.
