And so it begins – track and field, that is. Also in action are four American teams who are in contention for gold medals. Here is your guide for Day 7 of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Morning slots:
Men’s individual archery at starts the day off at 8 a.m. ET on NBCSN, where American Brady Ellison is looking to add to the team silver medal he won early in the Olympics.
NBCSN’s*coverage then transitions to to the debut of track and field, which can be watched on NBC as well. There will be qualifying heats and the women’s 10,000-meter final.
If watching a distance race doesn’t do it for you, the U.S. men’s water polo team is fighting to keep its medal hopes alive against Montenegro at 10 a.m. on NBC. A win will push the squad into position to move into the medal round.
Men’s golf is back in action starting at 6:30 a.m. ET. *Matt Kuchar was the lowest-scoring American after Day 1, and will looking to improve on his first round 68.
NBC’s schedule doesn’t have it listed, but Nico Hernandez has ended the United States medal drought in boxing after the U.S. got blanked in London. Hernandez is assured a bronze medal for advancing to the semifinals, but he is still fighting for a gold at 11:15 a.m. ET on NBCOlympics.com or the NBC Sports App.
Afternoon slots:
NBCSN has a string of America-centric games starting at noon ET featuring the dominant women of Team USA. First, the U.S. women’s soccer team enters the knockout round in the tournament against Sweden. *
Following that will be the U.S. women’s basketball team continuing group play against Canada. The U.S. women are in a good position to advance after winning their first three games by an average margin of 43.7 points.
If their domination is getting a little stale, U.S. women’s volleyball will be battling it out with Italy at 2:30 PT/ET on NBC. U.S. volleyball has had a great start to its Olympic games, winning all three of the group games heading into this matchup.
NBCSN will be getting the afternoon coverage going at 4:15 p.m. starting with the gold medal round of the men’s archery. Also on the docket is beach volleyball round of 16 action.
Primetime slots:
U.S. men’s basketball is back in action after an early group play scare from Australia. In that game, U.S. forward Carmelo Anthony became the all-time leader in Olympic scoring for Team USA. The Americans will be going against Serbia at 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
NBC will air its primetime coverage at 8 p.m. starting with an American in action in track and field. Michelle Carter figures to be in the women’s shot put final, where she hopes to medal in her first Olympic games.
The second-to-last day of swimming figures to be packed with action, with Katie Ledecky looking to break her own world record and defend her 2012 gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle. Michael Phelps will also be looking for his fifth gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly, and American swimmers Nathan Adrian, and Anthony Ervin look to medal in the sprint of sprints in swimming, the 50-meter freestyle.
If you want to turn away from the pool, NBCSN will have gold medal finals in men’s 85kg and women’s 75kg weightlifting. *Men’s quarterfinals and women’s elimination rounds of boxing will finish the night off on NBCSN.
