Having starting problems with my Mazda. It isn't the ignition control module, I bought a new one and the engine still cranks but doesn't fire up. Tested the coil with ohmmeter and it doesn't seem to be within specs range, so thought I'd try to replace it. OEM coils are over a hundred bucks though. Was wondering: Can I replace OEM distributor coil on 1992 Mazda Protege DX 1.8L SOHC with one of the less expensive aftermarket replacements like the Crane Cams PS E-Core Coil (PN 730-0020) or the similar type made by Pertronix ("Flamethrower"?) for example? These coils look a lot different than OEM, looks like you have to cut the connector off of OEM wiring to install them. They're cheaper than the OEM types though, so I was wondering. Talked to the "tech" person at Crane Cams, he couldn't even give me an answer to this question, for some strange reason. Any help would be appreciated
