I have a 4.3L V6 and i can't figure out why i can't switch from vents to defrost or floor. I have been doing some reading about vacuum lines but would appreciate the help from someone.

your car is leaking oil onto your engine causing the whit smoke and the knocking means you broke a rod if you keep driving it like that it will go straight through your engine then the cars done.you can either junk it, replace the engine or fix the oil leak which is prolly a blown head gasket...

ground air doesn't work.? I just replaced the resistor behind the glove box because the fan wouldn't shut off before and that seemed to work. Now I can control the the speed and shut it off but I still can't use defrost. When I turn the setting to anything, it still blows forward.

i have a 1998 silverado 1500 turbo diesel, when i start the truck the blower motor blows on full blast no matter what the setting is, anyone no whats wrong???
I have an 02 reg Ford Focus. It only blows out hot air when I set the speed to the 4th setting (e.g., if I leave it on 1, 2, 3 and hot, the car will get cold)
Any idea what I can check? The fact I can get heat, and get some output on 4th doesn't really narrow the problem down for me.

Hot air comes thru defrost vents and floor vents. Can't seem to stop it. What needs to be replaced? Someone suggested a vacuum line leak. Any hints on where to begin? For what its worth the fan speed selector switch and blower motor still work correctly.

...the vents? i had this problem when i got the truck reseanlty i but freon in it clucth kicked in no leaks but hot air blows out the clucth will turn the stop then like 6 sec. it will start turning again there is enougth freon i made sure off that i dont know if the probelm is reatted or not
