Many sites also use cookies to track repeat visitors. You might want to delete all your cookies (or at least the ones for the site in question), in addition to changing your IP.

The router (or something else in your network) is probably acting as a switch instead of a hub. Hubs are dumb devices that will broadcast all packets to all of the devices on the network, so a device on the network can sniff the packets intended for another device. But, not so with a switch.
