Setting up a JVC RX8000-VBK Receiver with DTS/DD DVD Player?

I have a JVC RX8000-VBK receiver and having difficulty configuring my Sony DVP-NS77H dvd player to it. I had it previously configured, but have since switched dvd players. The DVD player is connected via HDMI to the TV and TOSLink (optical digital cable) to the receiver. The receiver is not recognizing the Dolby or DTS capabilities of the DVD player. The receiver is DTS and DD encoded. The JVC manual is useless.
Any suggestions or web sites with tutorials would be helpful.
